New report projects hiring needs in Northeastern Ontario

The Far Northeast Training Board (FNETB), in partnership with the Mining Industry Human Resource Council, has released their 2013 Mining Hiring Requirements Forecasts for the Cochrane and Timiskaming Districts. The report outlines the cumulative hiring expectations for Northeastern Ontario’s mining industry through 2022. As the largest community in Cochrane District, the forecasts have significant implications for Timmins.

Hiring requirements are projected to reach as high as 12,540 people between now and 2022. The report shows that even under modest expectations (contractionary), the Cochrane District will have hiring requirements of at least 11,000 people. These numbers are calculated based on several factors, including upcoming retirements, non-retirement separations and current mining operations. It’s important to note that these forecasts are based on expected conditions–its creators cannot account for unforeseen circumstances.

Residents of Timmins and its surrounding communities are encouraged to stay informed on changes in the mining industry and its impact on economic development in Northern Ontario. Please visit the FNETB website to download the report.
