Timmins to be “Age Friendly” Community

One of the strategic projects the City of Timmins has been pursuing as part of the Timmins 2020 initiative is making Timmins an age friendly community.  An age friendly designation is used to describe an inclusive community that has services, activities and infrastructure to support and serve people of all ages. The Venture Centre is taking the lead on this project.

The venture Centre has applied for federal funding from the New Horizons for Seniors Program. New Horizons grants aim to promote community initiatives that are led or inspired by seniors. Project types include:

  • Promoting volunteerism
  • Engaging seniors in community through mentoring
  • Expanding awareness of elder abuse
  • Supporting the social participation and inclusion of seniors
  • Providing capital assistance for new and existing community projects for seniors

The first step in the project will be to form an advisory committee. The project is slated to begin in September.
