About Applied Research

This project is now completed.

The Northern Ontario Applied Research Institute (NOARI) at Northern College supports local businesses with research that helps them operate more effectively. Established in 2012, NOARI creates innovative partnerships and relationships between academics and businesses. The research projects ultimately provide benefits to both students and businesses. For businesses, NOARI provides access to customized research,  and keeps them up-to-date on technology and innovation. Students benefit by having opportunities to work on research projects and learn new skills that make them more marketable to local employers.

Types of research projects at NOARI include:

  • Prototype development
  • Software development and improvement
  • Materials testing and innovation
  • Information technology projects that improve quality or efficiency

Northern College now belongs to Colleges Ontario Network for Industry Innovation (CONII). This will connect Northern to other small and medium enterprises and industry partners with research needs. It means that NOARI is now a part of a province-wide network whose goal is to help businesses become more innovative.

Northern College has hired an industrial research consultant to coordinate NOARI. Projects can be as short as a few weeks or as long as a few years.

If you have a business yourself and think NOARI might be able to help you, give them a call at 705-235-3211.
