Celebration draws a crowd–and inspiration

The Year 2 Update event held at the McIntyre Arena on January 23, 2013 was a huge success. Approximately 75 community members filled the seats the capacity to hear about the 2012 successes of Timmins 2020’s various projects.

Mayor Tom Laughren presented the updates to a room full of community leaders, Council members, media correspondents and the general public. He provided an overview of the progress of nine ongoing Timmins 2020 projects, and introduced the ideas behind six upcoming projects. The six projects, which include the Chamber-lead Buy Local Campaign and City’s Community Calendar project, will begin in 2013.

Maggie Matear, coordinator for the Branding project, outlined the new branding concept for Timmins. Using visuals provided in the Timmins 2020 Year 2 Update presentation (1.1 MB), she showed how the brand can be used to create a consistent message for Timmins–without taking away from the individual brands that local organizations have built.

Last, but certainly not least, 98 local community members who have volunteered to help make Timmins 2020 a success were recognized. Mayor Laughren shook hands and gave them each a plaque as a token of the City’s appreciation for their contributions.

During the mix and mingle at the end of the night, several attendees expressed interest in getting involved in upcoming events and projects. They were inspired by Timmins 2020’s progress and surprised to see how many volunteers are already a part of making the plan a success. A few took steps towards becoming a part of upcoming projects by exchanging email addresses with project coordinators.

All community members are invited to find out how they, too, can Get Involved.
