Consulting firms recommended for housing, branding

On March 4, 2013, a representative of Timmins 2020 brought two recommendations before Council. The representative spoke on behalf of the Housing and Branding Committees, which have each selected their preferred vendor for their respective projects.

The Housing Committee recommended that Council hire SHS Consulting to complete a Community Housing Plan. SHS Consulting has worked on over 150 similar projects, including work in Sudbury and North Bay. The goal of this phase of the Housing project will be to assess Timmins’ current housing inventory and identify gaps. The data produced from the study will allow the City and its partners to appeal to developers and other investors with documented facts.

The Branding Committee recommended that Council hire Clark Marketing Communications to complete Phase II of the Branding project. Clark Marketing Communications has worked on marketing and branding projects for many organizations, including the City of North Bay. Their responsibilities will include developing marketing materials that local organizations can incorporate into their own marketing efforts. They will also design and coordinate the posting of signage throughout the community. The ultimate goal of the Branding project is to work together as a community to project a memorable, unified message about Timmins to outsiders.

The final decisions regarding both projects remains with Council members. They have deferred the decision to next week’s regular Council meeting scheduled for March 11.
