Cultural Plan will cover many facets of local culture

Members of the Culture Committee  gathered yesterday to attend a presentation about Municipal Cultural Planning. Coral Ethier, the Cochrane District’s Regional Advisor for the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, provided information about the process of developing a Municipal Cultural Plan (MCP).

The presentation prompted discussion amongst the attendees about what an MCP would mean for Timmins. Topics included local history, heritage buildings, cultural diversity, the arts, and the many distinctive neighbourhoods of Timmins. Mike Kentish, Coordinator of the Culture Committee said, “Coral’s presentation really helped everyone around the table understand how they were all connected through this process.”

The next step in the cultural planning process is to develop a Request for Proposal (RFP) to hire a consultant. The consultant will use community feedback and research to develop a Municipal Cultural Plan that is feasible for Timmins and that has community support. A draft RFP will be reviewed by the Culture Committee in August.
