Francophones choose French slogan

Phase II of the Branding project took another big step forward last week. As the second phase is about refining our brand, the Branding Team organized a session with local Francophones, so that they could weigh in on the French version of the logo. It’s important for a community like Timmins, with over half our population speaking French (Stats Can, 2011), to have a brand that Francophones can relate to.

frworskhoptransMore than 25 Francophones attended the session. Together, they brainstormed ideas to come up with a slogan that reflects the existing English version while remaining relevant to the French community. The consensus was “J’y tiens,” which draws on the word Timmins in a similar way as “I’m in.”

“J’y tiens” will appear together with “I’m in” on local signage and community marketing materials. If any local French organizations choose to use the community brand, it will also stand well on its own to invite Francophones to come to Timmins — whether for a visit or for a lifetime.
