The Timmins Festival and Events Committee is working toward changing the music scene here in Timmins. They recently circulated a survey in the community to get feedback on what people want in terms of musical genres, and types of acts they want to see. The information will help the committee get a feel for local tastes and preferences.
A group of interested citizens took the initiative to start the committee after it was announced that the Tragically Hip will be playing in Kirkland Lake this summer. The group held its first meeting in February and has been working on getting organized.
Improving the arts and culture scene was one of the recommendations in the Timmins 2020 Strategic Plan. The City of Timmins Culture Master Plan was created to fulfill that goal and the Plan suggests expanding and enhancing Cultural (Tourism) Opportunities in Timmins as a way to improve resident attraction, enhance quality of life and community vibrancy over the long-term.
This undertaking shows us that people in Timmins are ready to work on projects together and that with some effort and hard work our music scene can and will get better.
