June 13- CTR Consultations Begin

On May 15, the Culture, Tourism and Recreation (CTR) Team met with the consultants who are developing the Master Plan for Timmins. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss timelines and methods for the upcoming consultations.

Consultations with individual CTR stakeholders will begin on June 13 and 14, 2013. Sierra, the firm doing the research and development of these three Master Plans, will get preliminary input on how to build our CTR sectors in a sustainable way.

In any project like this, there will be recommendations on how to actually implement the plan. Those recommendations will cost money. The City of Timmins recognizes that it has a responsibility to balance increasing quality of life with responsible, reasonable taxation. One of the goals of this project is to come up with creative ways to finance and sustain any CTR developments in the long term.

Because summer is coming and people would much rather be outside than in a meeting, the broader public consultations will be held in the fall of 2013. Over the summer, the consulting team will review existing documentation around the culture, tourism and recreation sectors in Timmins. This research will become a vital part of the Master Plan, along with feedback that will be collected during the consultation sessions.
