MYAC to be revamped into Timmins Youth Council

Youth engagement is an extremely important part of Timmins 2020. While current initiatives are being spearheaded by existing members of community organizations, Timmins’ youth will be the ones to pick up the torch and maintain that momentum in the future.

Members of the Timmins 2020 team recently met to discuss how to best engage Timmins’ youth. The existing Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) was a major part of the conversation, especially the necessity for college and university aged people to be included. Opportunities for partnerships within the community were discussed, including a possible partnership between the MYAC and the Chamber’s Timmins Young Professionals (TYP). The intent of such a partnership would be to establish a mentorship program that would encourage youth to pursue professional careers within the community.

The Youth Engagement strategy is still in its infancy, but more updates will be provided as new developments arise.
