Scope of Recreation plan expanded

After hearing a presentation at the City Council meeting on Monday, June 11, Council voted to expand the scope of the Recreation Master Plan. The project is now going to be expanded to include culture and tourism. Cultural and tourism plans were not originally slated to be developed until 2013 or 2014.

This expansion will allow the City to combine multiple projects into one. The hope is that Timmins will be able to move forward sooner with other aspects of the strategic plan that must wait until culture and tourism plans are developed. There may also be opportunities to save money in those areas where recreation, culture and tourism overlap.

This change in scope requires two new subcommittees to be built, one for culture and one for tourism. A smaller committee with a couple of representatives from each of the three subcommittees will oversee the process.
