The Timmins Economic Development Corporation (TEDC), has released a video that features testimonials from new Timmins residents. It highlights stories of recent immigrants from all over the world who have come to Timmins to find a new way of life. The Timmins: What will you find? video was funded by the Government of Ontario with support from the Government of Canada.
The video is part of a partnership with the City of Timmins’ new branding campaign, which uses the slogan “I’m In”. The testimonials are an authentic way to extol the many different virtues of Timmins from the perspective of new arrivals. The TEDC will place the video on the immigrationtimmins.ca website, which promotes Timmins as a great place to live, learn and play. The video will also be available to the community at large, and to employers who want to recruit new people to Timmins.
“This video showcases the diversity of our province and the important economic and social contribution newcomers have made in building our communities. The compelling personal stories emphasize that diversity is our strength. Ontario’s Immigration Strategy will help us continue to attract a skilled workforce to build a strong economy and fair society.”
— Michael Coteau, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration
“The video is fantastic – it’s professional, it’s uplifting and it really highlights our brand and the point we want to make about Timmins – we have resources and opportunities just waiting for people to find,” said Mayor Tom Laughren. “I think it’s also great as a gentle reminder for those of us who already live here…we have a lot of good things going for us, and we need to get that message out there more often.”
The TEDC has carried out a number of projects to promote immigration to our community. Many of these have focused on marketing of our community, and creating an awareness of the need for immigration to help address workforce shortages.
Fred Gibbons, Chair of the TEDC, was pleased with the professionalism of the video. “This video really captures much of the essence of what Timmins has to offer. I’d like to personally thank those who participated in the video for sharing their stories with us. They’re very compelling, and the messages stay with you for some time after you’ve watched the video.”
