Timmins Tourism Wins Inaugural Award

Congratulations to Guy Lamarche and his team at the City of Timmins Tourism Department! it was awarded the first annual President’s Award at the recent Tourism Northern Ontario Annual General Meeting & Gala. The President’s Award for Tourism went to the City of Timmins for its “resilience and dedication in rebuilding and redeveloping its tourism industry.”

As we know, the tourism industry in Timmins has had to overcome some challenges in the last couple of years. Clearly, that hard work is paying off. In presenting the award, Tourism Northern Ontario Acting President Paul Pepe noted that the theme of the illustration on the trophy was “together”. “Clearly the effort that Timmins put into building its tourism industry was a group effort and we wanted to recognize that” he said. Accepting the award on behalf of the City, Guy Lamarche, Manager of Tourism, Events & Communications for the City of Timmins said “ I’m speechless, totally surprised and grateful to be recognized by my industry peers. The last couple of years have been challenging for Tourism Timmins. With the sale and closure of the Shania Twain Centre and Timmins Underground Mine Tour, we had to re-invent and repositioning ourselves in the marketplace. Despite the challenges, I always said that the glass was half full and truly believed that once one door closed, others would open”
added Lamarche.

“I’m grateful for the support that Tourism Timmins has received from Mayor and Council and I look forward to the release of a Tourism Master Plan for the city in the near future. Tonight I accept this award on behalf of the City and the many stakeholders that have helped us along the long and sometimes difficult journey” concluded Lamarche.

Way to go, Tourism Timmins!
