Leaders of several community youth organizations met on November 21 to discuss Timmins 2020’s Youth Engagement project. The meeting served as an exploration of the possibilities for youth engagement in the community. The organizations at the table included the Porcupine Health Unit, the City of Timmins, the Timmins Rotary Club, the Timmins YMCA, the Mayor’s Office and the Timmins Young Professionals.
Next, the group needs to identify partnership development opportunities for community organizations and determine which organization, if any, will take the lead for Timmins 2020’s Youth Engagement project. They will be meeting again the evening of December 5 to continue the discussion. The ultimate goal of the project is to engage youth in civic affairs and encourage them, through support and mentorship, to become responsible and active citizens.
