Culture,Tourism,Rec Plan begins

For the past year, The City of Timmins has been leading the charge to develop an integrated Culture, Tourism and Recreation (CTR) Master Plan. Three community-based committees, one representing each sector, have been guiding the process. These committees are made up of about 30 local volunteers. In late 2012, the CTR Team released a Request for Proposals to hire a consulting firm to develop the Master Plan.

After an in-depth analysis of the proposals submitted, the CTR Team presented their recommendation to City Council on Monday, April 15. Their preferred vendor was Sierra Planning and Management, who is partnered with PFK Consulting. PFK recently completed the Shania Twain Centre review. Sierra’s proposal indicated they will complete individual plans for the culture, tourism and recreation sectors, as well as an integrated plan. This integration will help organizations in all three sectors better coordinate going forward.

City Council approved the CTR Team‘s recommendation. Sierra, under the guidance of the three committees, will begin work on the Master Plan soon. The planning process will require extensive community consultations, and facility/program reviews to identify what Timmins is already doing well, as well as what needs to be improved.

Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on the Timmins 2020 website and Events Calendar so that they may participate in the development of the Master Plan.
