Tourism Timmins supports economic diversification efforts

The newly re-vamped Tourism Timmins is putting a lot of effort into promoting Events and Conferences in Timmins. Tourism brings new people (and new money!) into the community, and the City now has the resources to attract and support special events like The PMHA Tournament, the Mushkegowuk Cup and Snow-Cross. These events are taking place in the next month or so, and will bring more than $1M in tourism dollars to the City’s businesses!

Tourism Timmins will work with event and conference organizers in many different ways, whether its helping to pull together “Welcome to Timmins” kits, assist with facility arrangements or help with media and sponsorship. Tourism is one of the best ways to diversify the economy of smaller cities. Tourism features in several projects in the Timmins 2020 Strategic Plan, and it’s great to see that these projects are moving ahead and bringing positive results to the community.

If you’ve ever wondered how to calculate the impact of tourism events on a community, there’s an excellent tool at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. The tool is based on government and third party research that estimates what visitors spend when they are here for various reasons, such as business, sports, visiting family and friends, camping, etc.
