Summer Concert Series Unveils New Logo and 2013 Line-up

Today Tourism Timmins unveiled a new logo/brand that will be used to promote the annual Summer Concert Series. The logo was designed and donated by Brooke Ballantyne of Defined by Design. According to Brooke Ballantyne, “The Summer Concert Series Logo needed to be clean, friendly, open, and colourful. The logo needed to be able to represent a variety of music genres and audiences. It needed to create an ambiance of summer family friendly fun. It also needed to be professional and timeless ” continued Ms. Ballantyne. The icon is made up of elements that represent Timmins, as well as the Summer Concert Series. The top of the icon is a guitar head as well as an iconic head frame representing both music and our rich mining history. The guitar/headframe transitions into a music note (a clef). Worked into the clef, there is an iconic northern blueberry , vibrant leaves that represent blooming flowers, and a tree to represent the park setting. The word mark has been designed to be clean open and friendly. It is easy to read and has the option for multiple colours. The guitar pick, can be customized with the year of the Summer Concert Series.

This year, Tourism Timmins, in partnership with Midnight Express and title sponsors, Northern Tel, Royal Tire / Sailun Tires, James Toyota, and newcomer College Boreal will be launching the 4th annual Summer Concert Series on June 26th from the TH&VS Pavilion, Hollinger Park. This musical event will feature local talent every Wednesday starting June 26th to Aug 28th 2013 from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. This year the Summer Concert Series will feature 23 performing artists of different genres including classical, big band, symphony, country, rock, pop, progressive rock, adult contemporary, alternative, blues and blue grass.

A voluntary admission of non perishable goods will encouraged again this year in support of both the Timmins and South Porcupine food banks.

“Based on the success of last year’s event, I’m not surprised to see so many musicians apply to be considered in this year’s lineup. said Luc Chalifoux of Midnight Express and co-host of the Summer Concert Series. “To this end, music will flow from Hollinger Park from 6:30 pm to approximately 9:30 pm each week.”

“There is a huge appetite from the community, and obviously from the musicians for this event. The generous corporate support from Northern Tel, Royal Tire/Sailun Tires, James Toyota, College Boreal, co-hosts Midnight Express & Tourism Timmins and our media partners has allowed us to hire a minimum of 2 bands per week with some weeks seeing three performances. Last year the Summer Concert Series attracted thousands of people to Hollinger Park and we expect much of the same this year,” added Mayor Laughren.

According to Anne Vincent, volunteer with the Timmins Local Immigration Partnership “the Summer Concert Series provides another opportunity for newcomers to the City to engage the community in all its culture.”

“The public call to action inviting musicians to submit an application resonated with artist from the greater Timmins area and with many others with connections to Timmins. This year, we have musicians from Toronto, Kapuskasing and an all girls blue grass band from Elliott Lake. I expect that the visiting band will attract residents from their respective communities and elsewhere to the Summer Concert Series and this will generate incremental business for the hospitality and retail sectors. I’m also hoping to see our accommodation partners develop and promote a shopping/concert getaway to Timmins from neighboring communities.” said Guy Lamarche, Manager Tourism, Events & Communications.
