Timmins Culture Days to be held September 2014

With the release of Timmins’ new Cultural Plan, there are already signs of a new era for arts and culture in Timmins! In September of this year, Timmins will be holding its second annual (and bigger and better!) Cultural Days to celebrate the creativity and diversity of our community.

Culture Days is a Canada-wide volunteer movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. Local arts and culture groups are invited to present a free interactive event to the public during the weekend of September 26th to 28th, 2014. Your event can be as short as forty-five minutes, or stretch out over all three days.

Last year, five activities were held over three days during Timmins’ debut in Culture Days: a tour of the artwork at the Timmins Public Library and demonstrations by Science Timmins, an open studio tour and demonstrations by the Porcupine Handweavers & Spinners Guild, highland dance demonstrations by the Northern Ontario School of Scottish Dance in Hollinger Park, and an open studio with demonstrations by the Porcupine Art Club. This year, we hope to have more groups involved from Timmins and make Culture Days a memorable annual event in our community.

Please consider taking part in Culture Days 2014. There will be an information and planning session held on Tuesday June 10th from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at the Museum. Local Ontario Task Force Members Karina Douglas (Timmins Public Library) and Marnie Lapierre (Tourism Timmins) will be on hand, along with Catherine McLeod, Culture Days Ontario Animator, to answer your questions.
