Dates set to discuss culture, tourism and recreation proposals

Four committees are getting ready to sit down and discuss their evaluations of several proposals submitted in January 2013. The proposals outline how the submitting consulting firm plans, if successful, to develop Timmins’ Culture, Tourism and Recreation Master Plan (CTRMP). The proposals, which were submitted in response a Request for Proposals (RFP) posted by the City in December, have been distributed to various members of the Culture, Tourism and Recreation committees for evaluation.

Now, all three committees have set dates to meet and discuss their evaluations. As each committee represents the interests of a different sector, they are meeting separately to discuss each firm’s relevant experience, proposed workplan, and budget expectations.

By the end of each meeting, the committees should be ready with recommendations to bring forward to a fourth committee, the CTR Team. The CTR Team consists of one member from each of the subcommittees (culture, tourism and recreation) and representative of the City. Their role is to oversee the entire CTRMP project.  They will meet on February 26 to review each of the committee’s recommendations and decide which proposal to bring forward to City Council in March.

The final decision on which consulting firm to hire will fall to City Council. The date for the CTR Team’s presentation to Council has not been confirmed.
